What can you do if you need to buy a computer and you don’t have enough time to go to the store? What can you do if you need to buy a pair of shoes and is too late? Would you buy by Internet? Every year Internet shopping is more popular. Since the foundation of the websites Ebay and Amazon the revolution of the Internet shopping has been increased. But a lot of fraud happens every day. “According to U.S. Federal Trade Commission there were over 205,000 complaints of Internet commerce- related fraud reported in 2004” (Robertson, 2006, para. 2). A lot of people have been robbed because they gave their credit card number through Internet to fictitious companies that start to charge big quantities of money. However Internet shopping has a lot of advantages because it is cheaper, quick and you can do it at home.

Internet shopping could be safe if you pay attention to some information and if you follow some steps. First you have to use the credit card with the lowest limit. Second you should buy just in a recognized website, and third, you must do it just in your personal computer.
When you buy by Internet you have to use the lowest limit credit card that you have, because you are giving your personal information to people that you really do not know. Also you are giving to them your limited money. If you use your lowest limit of credit card you will be more protected. Even though according to Murlrean’s article “Protect Yourself” NCL states that credit card is the best way to buy on the Internet. This is because credit cards have a lot of technology behind them and when they start to detect strange transactions, they are blocked by themselves.

You should buy just in recognized websites where you know that other people buy and they recommend it. Do not use websites found in Google to buy an article. It is better if you buy directly from websites like Amazon. Use websites that have backing companies like Pay Pal, because they can be responsible for your transaction. Also websites like Ebay protect the transaction between two or more people. “Internet is like a central shopping mall, where you can find just about everything you need, from groceries and clothing to collectibles and hard-to-find replacement parts” (Robertson, 2006, para. 2). You just have to go to the correct website.

You must buy just in your personal computer because the computers can save the information of your credit card; even if you say don’t save anything, the computer is always doing a background of the information. This information could be found for others to use it. However according to Epinions.com (2008), in the article Five tips for safe online shopping, you can be checking your credit card balance by internet to know if something different is happening with your money. However if you are in your own computer, you can be registered with your IP address in websites for shopping, and this could make the shopping more safe for you, because just you can buy in a website from your computer.

Finally Internet shopping is a good alternative to buy, and you can, so it is safe if you follow some advice. You should buy with the credit card with fewer limits; you should buy from recognized websites and you should buy from your own computer, because Internet shopping makes your life easier.

Save Pelicans to save life on Earth

Do you know that some species are dying for the fault of human activities? Do you know that the pollution that we make can affect some animals? Animals are suffering by cause of human activity. Humans are only worried about themselves, but they have to think about other species. Brown pelican is among the animals that are not happy in their habitat. This bird used to be related with Louisiana State, but now they are leaving from that state to places that are cleaner or colder. This bird has started to have troubles. According to Rekstad’s article, brown pelican is a victim of global warming. They were a bird always related with southern weather, but they began to migrate to northern places because they are colder. However the author said, “the pelicans have not flown south for the winter and are again freezing to death in north places” (Rekstad, 2008, para. 1). Another problem that pelicans have right now is that some humans in Florida have started to feed them and the bird has forgotten it’s migration route. “According to the FWC, feeding pelicans can be dangerous in a few ways. It can cause the bird to be reliant on the handouts, which means they don’t migrate south during the winter” (Page, 2008, para. 2). Finally, people have to take care of the pelicans because in 1950 the population of this bird decreased because of the use of DDT pesticide that killed a lot of them, because the food of the pelicans was contaminated with the chemical. If people don’t take care of this bird, they can start to be an endangered species.

People have to save pelicans, because we have to conserve the life on the Earth. Humans have to be careful about their activities to not lose any species in the world. Pelicans are not happy in the Earth. They cannot find a good place to live and they have started to die. People have to be prepared to save this species because they are part of the ecosystem and they help to maintain the balance in the ocean. First we have to create an organization specialized in saving pelicans, because not too many people are interested in saving pelicans. Second we can build a refuge where the pelicans can live happily. Third, we have to design a program that helps pelicans to migrate in winter, and finally, we have to study more about pelicans to know if humans are causing some damage to this species.

We can create an organization specialized in saving pelicans. The organization can get some help from governments that are worried about pelicans, like the Louisiana government. They created in 1968 “a joint effort between the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries…the program called for the transport of fledglings from Florida’s peninsula to three release sites in southeastern Louisiana” (USGS, 2008, para. 12). The organization can be helped by the International Bird Rescue Research Center in San Pedro, because according to Sahagun (2008), they admitted some pelicans that were hurt for special care. The organization has to be worried about the situations of the pelicans in the world, because they have to save this species of birds. The organization has to be in charge just of pelicans, because the problem with other organizations is that they have a lot of work and they can’t pay attention to the problems that one species has.

The organization to save pelicans can build a refuge to save this species. This refuge has to be built in a place near the sea. One good place could be a desert island. In Venezuela there exists a place called “Isla de Aves”, or Island of Birds; this is a refuge for birds and sea life. This is a natural reserve of the world. This does not mean that if Venezuela has a natural refuge, the United States has to have one. This means that the United States have to do something to help the pelicans. Pelicans are important to maintain the balance of the environment; also, they can be part of the entertainment of people. This refuge can be like a national reserve or like a national park, because those are examples where the life of endangered animals has been maintained. The refuge can find financial aid from visitors because the refuge can be open for some people to study the species, or people that want just to visit for fun. But the people who want to go there have to be supervised to not disturb the pelicans. Also not too many people can be there because people always bring pollution and that is one of the reasons that pelicans are disappearing.

The refuge for pelicans can be built with the help of some governments and people who give profit to save the birds. Some people in Louisiana are worried because they haven’t seen the pelicans anymore, according to Fahrenthold’s (2008) article. This kind of people can help with the organization. The island has to be provided with food for pelicans, but it is better to provide natural food, which means fish that they need to find in the water. Also the island has to be clean and provide good weather for pelicans to live. The island needs good populations of pelicans of both sexes to increase the population and not permit the extinctions of the animal. In the United States we are used to hearing that some actors and actress buy a private island to vacation; one of these islands could be good to build a refuge for pelicans. Pelicans do not need too much to live in the Earth, because they eat fish from the ocean; they just need a clean environment where they can find good food and where the ocean is not contaminated. If the ocean is a not contaminated pelican can fish good for food.

However, if we build a refuge for pelicans, they need to migrate, and we have to design a program that teaches pelicans where they can migrate to be safe in the winter. Pelicans could be too happy in the refuge, and they can forget that they have to migrate in winter. Also they need to migrate to find more food and to run away from the rain. The organization can teach pelicans by putting some food in the route that the pelicans have to use to migrate to another refuge. Volunteers around the coast that pelicans pass through to migrate can do this. Also the organization has to study more about pelican’s migration route and habitat to save the species.

The organization has to study more too about why the pelicans are not happy in Louisiana to know what can make this species happy and save them. The United States has a very long land, and they have some parts of the land that are empty; they can increase the natural parks to help pelicans to find a route to migrate from north to south, and help to save this species of animals that were popular in so many states of this country and now are not often seen them in the sky.

According to Miller, Jr. (1994), some economists think that we don’t have to be worried about the Earth, because we have the technology that can help us to save the species. This is not true, because if this were true we wouldn’t have species that were endangered. We have to save every species in the planet because we are not the only inhabitants in the Earth. Brown pelicans have to be saved because they are dying because of the human damage to the environment. Technology can help us to save some species, but if all of the pelicans die, technology cannot do anything to help us. Technology can help us to save the pelicans when they are not disappeared but technology cannot help us to bring to life species that are already disappeared.

Some people can wonder why we have to be worried about the extinction of the pelicans if a long time ago a lot of species had disappeared from the Earth even when humans were not living on the Earth. It is true that the extinction of some species is part of the process of life, but that happened through years, and years and the species are going to adapt to new types of life, that are part of the evolution. But pelicans are not disappearing because of the process of evolution; they are dying because of the human activities like what happened with DDT. That is the reason that we are losing our species and we are not progressing.

We have to save pelicans because they a part of the Earth’s life and they are dying because of human activities. To save pelicans we can create an organization specialized in saving pelicans. This organization can build a refuge for pelicans and can teach the pelicans to migrate in winter. Also the organization can study more about pelicans to save the species. Pelicans are important for the Earth and humans have to learn how to live taking care of the environment. If humans don’t do this, no life in the Earth can survive.

American Elections

 The elections in the United States are very important for the entire world. That is the reason that I was interested in who would be the next president of the United States. The president of this country has a lot of power. Who won the election can change the politics in my country. I wanted Obama to win the elections, because I think McCain had stronger politics toward countries like mine. I already knew that Obama would win. For me that was not a surprise. I am happy because I think Obama can change a lot of things that Bush did and were wrong. I am happy too because Obama doesn’t have stronger politics toward countries that have dictatorial presidents. Venezuela lives because the United States buys our oil. If the U.S doesn’t buy our oil we could die. Obama will still buy oil from Venezuela. Furthermore, I think America needs a change and Obama is different from what Americans are used to. He is the first black president of the United States. He is really different in his form of government, and that will be good for the American people.

Vacations

My favorite vacation activity is going to the beach. I love going to the beach in my country or in other countries. In Venezuela we always have the perfect weather. Venezuela is a tropical country in the Caribbean Sea. We have beautiful beaches and every weekend a lot of people go to the beach. Venezuela is a small country and every city has a beach near it. In Caracas the beach is like one hour driving and is really good. I love to go to the beach with friends and family but I enjoy going to the beach just with my husband. When I travel to other countries I always choose countries with beautiful beaches. On my honeymoon I took a cruise that started in Santo Domingo and went to some Caribbean Islands, and then went to Europe and finishED in Italy. That was awesome; I love to watch the sea and the ocean.

Food in Venezuela

Venezuela is not a country that is famous for food. We eat every kind of food, like American, Mediterranean, Japanese, Chinese and more. However in Venezuela people take care about the food that they eat. In my country people always try to eat healthy food. In Venezuela people are really worried about their appearance, and that is the reason, because they eat good food. Also a lot of people go to the gym every day. For me, American food is good to eat not too often because it is really unhealthy. Since I arrived here I have gained more that 4 pounds even though I try to eat good food every day. Furthermore I started to suffer gastritis. In my country the food is really healthy; you can find in restaurants a lot of salads, vegetables, fruits, juices of natural fruits and more. The food in Venezuela is not too spicy, even though we use a lot of ingredients to cook the food. Our food is made with real food, for example, food in Trueblood’s catering, here at SIU, is not real food, the meat is kind of processed and for me that is not food.  In Venezuela people cook with vegetables and naturals spices. One of the things that are hard to adapt here in the United States is the food.

SONGS TO REMEMBER

I have something that makes me remember past moments. That thing is song. Songs makes me remember past happy and sad moments. Songs make me transport to times that I already lived. I have a song for every time of my life and it is not that I try to find a song for every moment. It is that some songs are playing when I am living something. For example when I met my husband the song that was playing was “The Reason” of Hoobastank. Later on when I married my husband we dance a song in our wedding and that song make me remember my wedding that song was “Que precio tiene el cielo” of Marc Anthony. I have a song for every moment in my life. I have a song that makes me remember when I was 15 years. Also when I heard an old song I can remember what I was doing when that song was playing. I really enjoy when that happen. Because sometimes we forget some happy moments. One song can make you live one moment in your memory again. I think that happen with everybody because sometimes when I am with my mom and she hear a song she told me “that song is when I was in my school”. I am sure that in a future when I hear a song like “Paper plan” or “Lollypop” I will remember my time here in Carbondale. I will remember in a good way because I have had a really good moments here. I am so sad because I will leave in a few weeks, but I am happy because I enjoyed my time here and I will remember that. 

Time Alone

I don’t know why but Spanish people are always together. We always make jokes about be together. We say for example that if you have to change a light you have to make a party to change the light. I am used to travel and I don’t know why I always meet Spanish speakers. When I was in Canada I had a group of friends and we were more than 20 Spanish speakers. I think we are always together is because we are similar and in our culture we are always having fun. American people is different they have fun but in a different ways. Latin people are always dancing. We are always thinking in what we are going to do to be together. However even friends are important for me is important to have time by myself. I don’t know why but sometime I feel boride about people and I need to be alone. I think people have to learn how to be alone because we don’t have to de dependent of others to be happy. You have to enjoy when you are with people but you have to enjoy the time that you spend alone. Some people feel sad when they are alone and that is so bad because they begging to create dependent relations with others. They start to be obsessive. I love my friends and family but I love to have time for me alone. I think that is because I was always alone when I was a child. My mother was always working and I don’t have brother or sisters. I was alone in my house studying, sleeping or watching television. I think that is one of the reasons because I grow up too early.

Dreams

I have a lot of goals for my future. First I want to start my master degree in business communication. I want to get a job in a company called Pizollante that is especially in business communication. Then I want to start to work in my own company but I think that first I have to get experience. I want to have clients like Microsoft, Procter and Gamble or IBM. I really want to be a good professional with a lot of experience and education. I want to speak good English. In my personal life I want to be happy with my husband and I want to have 2 children. I would like a girl and a guy. I hope to have a beautiful family. I would like to give my mother all that she gave to me and more. Of course I want to have money enough to buy whatever I want. Another goal that I have is to be a good person. I pray for not hurt any one. I hope to help every person that asks me for help. I am working to achieve all my goals. My big fear is not achieving my goals because that can makes me feel so sad in the future. However I am optimist and I know that if you work hard to find something you can achieve it. I think that if you have a lot of fears you cannot do anything because the fear cannot leave do nothing. Also if you have fears you can attack them to you. I think is better to be positive and to work hard for your goals. Those are my dreams and I hope to achieve them.

Danger of Extinction

According to the article “The brown pelican’s return to coastal Louisiana” the author states that brown pelicans have a history in Louisiana, but they disappeared from there. Brown pelicans arrived in Louisiana because Iberville, first coasting of the Gulf of Mexico, took the pelicans and carried on to the New World with 24 feminine birds in hope that they would provide an incentive for permanent settlements. Then in 1966 the pelican received the honor to being officially adopted as the state bird. However the author explains that the pelican bird started to decrease it’s population in the state of Louisiana until they totally disappeared. The scientist began to study why the pelican had disappeared; they could not have proof to know at that moment why the birds migrated. They believed that the reason had been two tropical storms in 1956 and 1957. However, years later, in California, the pelicans started to disappear too but the research found that thousands of pounds of the pesticide DDT had been used in the state. Fishes that are part of the food of the pelicans had absorbed the DDT. As a result of this in 1968 the Louisiana state started a program to restocking brown pelicans. They transported the pelicans from Florida. The program started to be successful and the birds started to increase and sustain their population.

So many of the environmental problems are caused by humans but human cannot migrate across, the Earth like pelicans did when they did not find food. However some of the humans can create a lot of programs to help to maintain the Earth. Also humans are intelligent to use the technology to help the Earth and try not to cause more damage.

Humans are always creating pollution without thinking of the environment. The problem is that when they started to think about the environment, it could be too late. Every day too many species disappear from the Earth because of the damage of humans and one of these species could be humans too. Humans do not have the possibility to migrate to another planet, like the movie WALL-E. Neither do we have the possibility to move to another country like brown pelicans, because we are too many people for just one country. Humans have to be more conscious to think about the future. Humans have to respect the environment to subsist in the Earth. We have proof of the damage that we are causing and the migration of the pelicans can be one example of this. Humans do not have possibilities like pelicans.

However humans can start to create some programs in order to protect the environment. The program that Louisiana State started protected one of the species of the Earth. Humans have to take the environmental problems seriously. They have to start to take seriously the methods of reuse, recycle and reduce. It is incredible that people, knowing the environmental problems that the Earth has, are not worried about doing something. Every day you can see in the place to recycle a lot of things that are not to recycle. Even if people have to places to put the garbage, they mix everything recyclable and not. However it is important to create educational programs to explain to people how they can take care of the environment.

Humans have to think about how they can create technology to help to clean the environment without causing more damage. Some person is creating a machine those functions in order to clean the air pollution. Mexico City is one of the cities where the machine had been tested. Humans have to figure out the problem of why green technology is more expensive than regular technology. Whirlpool, for example, has a line of washing machines that are green and not cause damage to the environment, but this line is the most expensive, and no one will buy it. Humans have technology and they must use it for the best.

Humans can continue causing damage to the environment, but they could disappear if they are too late. If the human race wants to live in the Earth forever, they have to think of the planet. They have to create programs that help to take care of the environment, and they have to use the technology in the same way. The Earth could not be forever.

Technology

Technology can help you to learn another language. Just with a computer you can practice your skills in other language, like reading, speaking and writing. With technology you can even learn the new language because right now we have a lot of programs that make you speak many languages spending 5 minutes a day. Fluency is one of the interactive programs that helps you to learn other languages. With the program of fluency you have to talk with the computer, you have to read and play games. With fluency you can watch videos and hear conversations too. Technology also can help you to understand another language by introducing voice or text in minutes. However technology sometime can cause damage when you are learning other languages. For example the word processor cannot help you to learn grammar, because Word corrects your mistakes when you are writing. Even thought I think that technology can help you to learn another language, I think in the future we just will need a chip to learn another language.

Global Warming could bring terrible consequences

According to the article “Warming Imperils Md. Species; Scientists Fear Loss of Baltimore Oriole, Native Brook Trout” written by Fahrenthold (2008), the global temperature is increasing and that causes a lot of change in the world such as the shifting bird migration or the disappearing of some species. The brown pelican, which is native of Louisiana, has left from there. Now over 1,000 brown pelican have been born in Washington. The brook trout also could be disappearing because of their intolerance for heat. However the public’s interest has been stoked and authorities are trying to find a solution. Researchers are trying to find a solution to make trout remain in Washington. The author mentions other consequences of climate change; for example people who watch birds have noticed that the birds that they were watching were related with warming weather. Plants are changing too; Washington’s cherry blossoms are flowering days earlier than before. Finally the author presents two postures of people. One said that the cycle of the nature is changing and we have to deal with this but, others said that hot temperatures could cause a lot of damage for the life.

The author has a good point, that climate change affects the life in the world and we can prove that, because we can see the changes. Some consequences of global warming could be that the human race could disappear; the food could not be enough and every day the land of the world is sinking in the ocean.

The human race could disappear. Some people can think that it is not a problem that the brown pelican migrated to Washington, but that is a big problem because it is one of consequences of the global warming. That the brown pelican, which is native of Louisiana, which is an state located in the south, migrated to the north is a worrisome situation. What would happen with the humans that live in the south if the global warming continues? Do we have to migrate to the north? That is not a possibility, and the human race could start to disappear. Not only are brown pelicans migrating but other species are starting to change too, and at the end of this era maybe we will have more problems with the heat of the world.

The food could disappear too, if the world continues increasing its temperature. Nature could not produce the renewable resources. A lot of our food comes from nature and could not be produced at high temperatures. Animals are also our food and they start to be suffering, more than humans, the global warming consequences. Animals can disappear because they have started to have problems to find their own food; for example brown pelicans in the warm ocean cannot find their food and they are migrating. If the animals disappear and the nature cannot produce food because of the temperature, what will humans eat? The food will not be enough.

The land is sinking in the ocean; that is happening because the glaciers are melting. One of global warming consequences is that the Earth temperature is increasing and the poles start to be warming. The ice in the poles is melting and the water runs around the oceans and covers the land of the countries. Humans in countries from the coast start to suffer inundations and a lot of people could lose their houses. Animals in the poles are suffering too; for example, in the coast of Brazil someone found a family of penguins,, some had died and some were almost dead. Global warming could make our countries disappear.

Global warming affects the whole world, and every day we can see more consequences of this with the passing of the years. We have to be worried, because the human race could disappear. Food could not be enough for humans and countries are sinking in the water. What we need is for more people to start thinking of the Earth. The last of these consequences could be the worst

Halloween

In my culture we don’t celebrate Halloween and we don’t have any holiday related with dead. However since few years ago we started to see some things related to Halloween in the street. The reason of this is that we have a lot of American influence. Every article in Venezuela is imported from the United States. If Americans have a holiday in Venezuela we will have the same holiday because the merchandise comes from America. In Venezuela people likes party and everything related with party will be successful in my country. Today in so many bars you can find Halloween parties. Also you can see Halloween decorations in shopping centers. However this is not a tradition in Venezuela. Halloween is not celebrated for everyone in my country. People how is in a better social class know about Halloween but is not the whole country. Venezuelan people prefer Christmas. Everybody in Venezuela celebrate Christmas. We have American influence in our Christmas because we use Christmas tree but this is not our tradition. We have a lot of Santa Clause images but we believe in Jesus Christ. We celebrate Christmas on December 24th. We make a dinner with our family. We cook hallacas that is a traditional plate in Christmas. The arty start before 12 pm. And everybody give you a present for Christmas. For children the go to bed a Baby Jesus give them some presents too. Our Christmas is different but I don’t have doubt about the American influence in my country. I like American holidays and I don’t care about the influence that American have in my country. I like Halloween and I like to celebrate it.

Communications progress

Communications had changed the world. When my mom was young she could not communicate with her family in Spain. Sometimes she had some news of her family because she received a letter from them. Every kind of communication took a lot of time to arrive. Now we always communicate. We can’t live without computers or cell phone. We are used to checking our e-mail two or three times a day. I remember when I was 6 years old and think in how we could survive with no cell phone or computers. Now when I live home and I forget my cell phone I feel like I forget my life. I think that’s not good because we become dependent on the technology. I think that every day we are more dependent. Before I just checked my e-mail account but now I have to check my facebook and my weblog. Otherwise communication makes us feel free. My mom said that the world was too big for her but she said that for my generation the world is small. We are connected with everybody in every moment. In the last 10 years the business that has grown the most was in the communication area. I think every day I need to be more and more connected and communications will continue progressing.

Love

I think in love we don’t have rules. There are to many ways to find the true love and maybe for someone is not the same that for other one. In my case I never thought that I married my husband when knew him. We knew us because of a common friend. My friend was meeting a guy and my husband was the friend of that guy. One day she pushed me to go with her to a restaurant o met her guy and that guy pushed my husband too. We know each other and we started to talk every day but I had a boyfriend for 4 years. Two days after we met us he kiss me. Then I broke with my boyfriend and two days later my husband and I started a relationship. Just one week before met us. We had 2 year together he ask me if I wanted to marry him and we married on march 28 this year.
For someone who heard this story could think that this is not a way to know your true love but I think love is different in every person. I wasn’t thinking in marriage and I think that’s the reason because I’m married. Some women are obsessive with marriage and they push their boyfriend to do that but the guys don’t do it. I think if you are obsessive with something you can’t find what you want. I think that we don’t have to depend of the marriage to be better. I think that we don’t need a man beside us to be most women. I think that women have to be independent because love is not the same of depending. For me love is enjoyment with other person. I think love is enjoying when you are with the other person. Feel it good. Be happy. But if you are not with the other person, like me right now, you can’t die. I remember my husband every day and I miss him but I can’t die because he is not with me. Love is freedom. You don’t have to be always with someone to love him. Love is not emotional depending.

Vancouver

I have been in to many cities because my parents like to travel a lot. I have been in 11 countries of Europe and at least two cities for each country. Also I have been in Egypt, Canada, Mexico, USA, Peru and more. But in my opinion the most beautiful city that I have been in is Vancouver in Canada. In Vancouver you have a lot of things to do. You have a lot of places to visit and a lot of different things to see. In Vancouver you can find the perfect combination between beach and city. In Vancouver they have beautiful parks to walk or to bike in. The city is clean. They have a lot of flowers in the street. If I have to recommend a city for someone that wants to have fun I would say Vancouver. In Vancouver you have a lot of nightclubs, restaurants, after hours and more. They have an IMAX and a lot of cinemas. Near Vancouver is Victoria Island. Victoria is one of the most beautiful places that I have been. Also near Vancouver is Whistler, which is another beautiful place near Vancouver. I went to Vancouver to study English, but I can say that I had my best time there.

Consequences of Climate Change

In Hirsch’s (2005) article titled “Animals ‘hit by global warming’” he explains how changes in the temperature of the world can affect the migration of the animals. This information was discussed in the report of the EU nature conservation chiefs in Scotland. Scientists observed that species associated with the south had appeared in the north such as ringed plover birds that are now spending the winter in Britain. Although others animals have migrated to different routes, for some animals that is not possible. Polar bears and seals, whose habitats are changed, are going to disappear. Another consequence that the author explains of the temperature changes is that the plankton has changed, and that contributes to the decline of the breeding success of Scottish seabirds. Then the author mentions some other consequences of the climate change identified in the report. Finally, the author explains that nature can adapt to the changes but the problem is that these changes are too quick. The species does not have enough time to adapt to it. The conservational official in Scotland urged the population to use biological corridors to help animals to adapt to global changes.

Every country have to find a solution for global warming together and there are tree ways to deal with this problem. First developed countries must help undeveloped countries. Second each government has to educate its population. Third countries have to create an intergovernmental organization for take care the environment.

Developed countries are more worried about global warming and they have to help undeveloped countries with this problem. First, because they have enough money to begin programs that help poor countries to change some process of life that make a lot of pollution. For example, in Venezuela they always have oil spills caused by the lack of knowledge of the people. Oil spills can cause contamination in the water around South America. Second, developed countries are more organized, and they can create a commission that helps poor countries to reduce the pollution. Poor countries are always focusing on how they can subsist and they do not have enough time to think about global warming.

Governments have to educate their population because he principal problem of the global warming is not the governments of the countries but the population. People have to be educated in all countries developed or not. People can cause big damage for the nature. For example people in United States consume a lot of energy. They always leave the light and the air conditioner on and that is one of the causes of global warming. Every country has to teach its population, because global warming affects the whole world, including both humans and animals.

A quick solution for this problem could be creating an intergovernmental organization that observes countries about the environmental damage. This organization must be run like the United Nations. Specifically it has to run like the United Nations Security Council. The organization most have a president elected by the votes of every country. They could give a fine to countries that cause damage to the environment. That can help to reduce the pollution and to teach the population. This could be a way to push the countries developed or not to start thinking about global warming and how that can affect the world.

Climate change is a big problem that affects our ecosystem. Humans, animals and plants could disappear from the planet. People have to start thinking about global warming. The beginning must be that developed countries try to help poor countries. Then people have to be educated about the care of the planet. Finally we should encourage the creation of the intergovernmental organization that can help to push the countries to think about the planet. Global warming can make us die.

The City of my Dreams

In the break time of CESL I went to Chicago. That is an unbeliever city. Chicago is amazing. I liked it because Chicago is a big city. It is clean and it is a fun city. In Chicago you have a lot to do. You can go to the museum or to the IMAX. You have a lot of good places to eat any kind of food. You have a lot of nightclubs. However the most important is that you can be yourself because in Chicago there are a lot of different people and anybody cares about how you are. I stayed in Palmer House Hilton and the hotel was so beautiful in the middle of the loop. I bought a lot of things that there are not in Carbondale. I went up to the sears towers and I walked through Navy Pear. I saw in the street two brides walking and guys playing dumps. I saw a lot of different things and that is the reason that I think that Chicago is the city of my dreams.

Fluency 1

I come from a big city. I am from Caracas, Venezuela. There are a lot of differences between Caracas and Carbondale. Caracas is a big city, with a lot of buildings, people and cars. Caracas has a population of 6,000 inhabitants. We have a lot of poor people and the traffic is terrible. Carbondale is a small town that has life because of the university. Carbondale is quiet and for me it is boring. In Caracas you always have something to do and every day shops, restaurants, and bars are open until 6 in the morning. In Carbondale you do not have anything to do after 2 am. However I like Carbondale because it is a safe town and people here are friendly. In my country I feel that people are always thinking about how much money you have or how beautiful you are to talk to you. In Carbondale you do not have to be worried about your clothes or your aspect because everybody talks to you because you are a person, but not because you look good. Caracas is a city and it is different from Carbondale. I like Carbondale but I miss my city too.

Education in Venezuela

In my country we have 6 years of basic school, 3 years of middle school and 2 years of high school. Then people have to go to university. We have universities publics and private. Private universities are better than publics. The education is not too expensive. We have a lot of Meyers but they are not too specific like here in America. If you want to study health care administration you have to study just administration. Then you can do a master degree in health care. In Venezuela we start the semester on September and we finish on March to start again on March to finish on July. In high school everyone have to use uniform and the color of the shirt change dependent of the grade. I think we have a really good education in Venezuela. If you want to be graduated in Venezuela you have to study a lot. If you want to approve the grade you have to pass the exams. Our final examinations are about all semester subjects. Sometimes if you don’t pass the exam you can go out of the university. In Venezuela you have a different teacher for each subject and sometimes you have to chance the classroom. Our classes start at 7 a.m. and finish at 6 p.m. Then you have to go to your house to study more. For me the classes here in CESL are too easy because you have a lot of activities that help you to approve the level. I don’t know how difficult is the university in United States but I’m sure that it is not easy. If you are graduated of and American University in Venezuela you can find a realy good job.

Coffee

In Venezuela we have very good coffee. We are next to Colombia and they have the best coffee in the world. I think we had copied the skills of the Colombian coffee. In Venezuela everybody drink a lot of it. People is use to drink coffee every morning with the breakfast. In workshops everybody have a cup of coffee, also we have places to drink coffee like star bucks. However I don’t like any kind of coffee. I don’t like the flavor and I don’t like hot drinks. I prefer to drink tea but in Venezuela we are not use to drink unsweet ice tea. The only thing that we have in restaurants that is similar than tea is something called “Nestea” and is a kind of soda without sparkles. When I go to a restaurant and I want an ice tea I have to order a hot tea with a glass of ice. I like ice tea because is not strong like coffee and I think is better for your health. I like any kind of tea especially the red tea that I tasted when I was in Egypt. I didn’t remember the name of the flower to make that tea but was amazing. I like chamomile tea and green tea too. You don’t have to cry for me Anna I like tea.

Venezuelan Movies

I don’t like watch movies too much. In Venezuela everybody likes watch movies and also we have a lot of cinemas where people go very often. The 80 percent of the movies are from America but since few years ago we had increase our national movies. Our movies show the Venezuela culture too and they always have a topic related with insecure like kidnappings, robbers, drugs, and more. I don’t like the movies of Venezuela because I think we have more things to show to the world that are good about us. Our films are not really good. We don’t have good skills to produce a good movie. The only movie that was produced in Venezuela and was really good was one called “Kidnappings Express”. An American producer that was Cinemax bought this film. The movie has a really good texture and a good story. The actors were from Venezuela but they are not the same actors of always. They were new actors and I like that. After “Kidnappings Express” the industry of films in Venezuela have improve because before anyone liked the Venezuela movies. Right now a lot of producers are doing something interesting in my country. Although they are now pretty good I think in the future they will be better than today.

My favorite type of music

My favorite type of music is Reggaeton; I know is weird because no everybody likes. I like this type of music because is a happy and make you feel wake up. The reggaeton is a musical genre created in Puerto Rico and is a mix between hip hop, rap, dance and Latin style. This type of music is really good to dance because is fast and has a good rhythm. I love dance and specially reggaeton because you have to move all your body and sweat enjoying the dance. When you are dancing reggaeton you don’t need a partner because this type of music can be danced along. In Venezuelan night clubs we can hear a lot of reggaeton and everybody dance. I like to hear reggaeton in Carbondale because this type of music make me remember when I was in Venezuela and make feel happy.

My favorite duo of reggaeton is Wissin and Yandel, because for me they are the best reggaeton singers. I like them because they have good songs and good lyrics. Also when I was in Venezuela I when to a concert of Wissin and Yadel with my husband and we enjoy the moment and their music make me miss my husband and my country. I know some people think that reggaeton is not music but for me is a good music because is a new genre and is the genre of my time. Maybe when I would be old I would tell my sons “that was the music that I hear when I was young” like my parent tell me when they hear The Beatles.

Venezuelan Arepas

I really do not have a favorite food, because I am not a food lover. I eat for living but I don’t live for eating. However I want to talk about one food that is special in my country and the name is Arepa.

What is Arepa? The Arepa is a thick tortilla made with corn flour. The arepa can be roasted or fried and It is eaten stuffed with jam, cheese, eggs, beans or what each person like. The Arepa is perfect for brakfast but in Venezuela we eat Arepa in every moments and in diferents ways. At lunch time we eat Miniarepas, it is a small Arepa that we eat in replecement of bread. At night we can eat Arepas for dinner or if we go to a bar, when we leave of there, we can go to a place called arepera where we can eat arepas 24 hours a day.

In Venezuela we eat Arepas always even in parties, at the beach, or wherever we want. The Arepa is a cheap food and is really easy to make, the only thing that we have to do is mix the flour with water and then mold the arepa and put it in the grill for 10 minutes. The Arepa is an every day food. In Venezuela is our national food and when we leave from our country the thing that we miss is the Arepa, because we are used to eat Arepas every day.

Finally I want to say that the Arepa is a healty food and even healthier than bread, because corn flour is better than wheat flour.

My first reaction when I came to United States

The first time that I came to United State was when i was 6 years old and I went to Orlando, Florida to know Disney. I remember the thing what I most impact was that the pavement was white, in Venezuela the pavement is black because is made with petroleum. The other thing that impacted me was that the street was clean and there were not people walking in the sidewalk because everybody have a good car. In that moment Venezuela was crossing a hard crisis and the country was really poor and the person who has car was old car.
I remember too that my father gave me 100$ to buy whatever I want and I was sad because in my country you couldn't buy anything with 100 Bolivares and I thought that i couldn't buy anything but when I arrive with my mom I saw that everything was cheap, interesting and different than Venezuela.

Hi I'm Vanessa Bereciartu I am from Venezuela, I majored in mass communications and now I'm in Southern Illinois University of Carbondale trying to learn English in the Center of English as a Second Language to get ace at Toefl test. As a result of that I opened this blog to post everything that i will do in my Writer class and help the others students that want to come here to learn English.
